Just ACT Movement


Life is just like a ship sailing on the sea. Facing the endless ocean and the unknown weather conditions … too many unpredictable things emerged along the way driving us away from the desired route. And illness is one of the things that we cannot predict and control. Research has found that 1 in 4 to 5 chronically ill patients is experiencing emotional distress (Lau et al., 2021).

While recover physically is imperative, one should never neglect the mental health.  Funded by the HSBC Foundation, the HKSR launched the “Just ACT Movement” Action Plan. This campaign takes care of the mental well-being of chronic illness patients’ and their caregivers.  It features

                    • psychoeducational courses,
                    • one-on-one case follow-up,
                    • daily practices and exercises,
                    • online self-study resources and
                    • sharing from the spiritual ambassador.

The general public can pay revisit their spiritual health, learn to avoid being entangled with the “inevitable” and negative emotions. While thinking about getting along with oneself well, everyone can have the power to live a meaningful life.

The programme has held nearly 40 courses, with more than 700 participants so far. Participants’ depression and anxiety situation improved significantly after taking the programme, and their personal well-being and satisfaction also improved.
