About Barrier Busters

“Barrier Busters” is the annual signature event for community education and fundraising of the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation (HKSR). We aim to promote the meaningful cause of building a caring and inclusive community through this very unique event in Hong Kong.

The event mobilises and engages corporates, schools, families and the general public to form teams of four for a city-orienteering programme to experience the daily challenges of people with disabilities in different districts in Hong Kong. The participants can experience for themselves how challenging daily life can be if they cannot see, hear or speak, or if they have limited or no use of their arms or legs.

The proceeds from this event will be used to support our rehabilitation service, thus helping people with disabilities and chronic illnesses to re-integrate into society and lead a dignified and fulfilling life.

Let’s get together on the event day to break physical, psychological and social barriers and create an inclusive society!

WHAT IS “BARRIER FREE”?

barrier busters無障行者
There are two major aspects to a Barrier-Free society:
Physical: barrier-free access to facilities and transport, and an environment that accommodates people with special conditions, such as people with physical disabilities, elderly people and pregnant women.

Psychological: social acceptance and understanding of the rights of people with disabilities and treating them the same as everyone else.

Values related to a Barrier-Free society: Acceptance, Equality, Respect and Inclusiveness.
