The elder brother

Dr. Zhou Yuxian is the head of Orthopedic and Trauma (orthopedic) Department of Tuen Mun Hospital in Hong Kong and plays an important role in our volunteer service. Dr. Zhou’s volunteering experience dated back to year 2010, when there was a big demand for follow up operations and services from people injured in Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008, and we desperately needed experienced professionals to provide technical support. Mr. Zhou then came to Sichuan for the first time as a volunteer and it has lasted for 4 years. Dr. Zhou volunteered for us every year on either his business or private trip. He arranged meetings even though he had only a little time to learn the rehabilitation development of the injured and gave them suggestions.

Another earthquake hit Lushan County in 2013 and more than 10 thousand people were injured. We received Dr. Zhou’s call on the second day after the earthquake when he asked about the situation and whether help was needed. Dr. Zhou came to Sichuan again in July 2014 and conducted consultations with more than 60 injured people in just 3 days, not to mention he had to go back and from the stricken areas. There was a woman who’s aged over 80 who came to the consultation. She was still wearing external fixation on her lower limbs which seriously affected her life. Dr. Zhou decided to remove the fixation on site and smiled while seeing the lady’s nervousness, “It won’t take a long time and it won’t be painful.”

Speaking of Dr. Zhou, his sense of responsibility as an “elder brother” can never be neglected. He always tries his best to help whenever we have difficulties.

“Dr. Zhou, can we find the rehabilitation devices for this patient in Sichuan?”

Dr. Zhou: “I will arrange them in Hong Kong.”

“Dr. Zhou, there are lots of people injured especially to the bones.”

Dr. Zhou: “I will arrange specialists to visit.”

We thank Dr. Zhou for his contributions to Sichuan and the injured.
