Legend of the Phoenix

The "Immortal Phoenix" originates from an ancient legend in which a dying phoenix was miraculously reborn out of blazing fire.

"An Extra-ordinary Life"

  • As a result of a traffic accident, Mr Lam Leung-ming has lived in a wheelchair for more than two decades.  Yet he has trained himself to have an unyielding spirit and has cultivated a matchless commitment to serving patients with disability or chronic illness.

My "Mischievous Boy"

  • Sudden whole-body joint swelling and arthritis pain rewrote the life of Ms Grace Lin.  The aroma of flowers is everywhere in her life, regardless of the rheumatoid arthritis which will never leave her.

"I am one of the few survivors."

  • Before having a stroke, Dr Edith Kwan, the former Director of the Information Technology Department of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, had a promising career and a happy marriage.  Her post-stroke life is a long way down from that peak, yet her strong willpower enables her to keep composing a moving poem for herself.

A dismembered leg is neither a blessing nor a disaster

  • In a sacrificial rescue, courageous fireman Mr Benny Cheung Wai-leung became disabled.  However, he never grumbled but emerged as a daring record-breaker in the International Paralympics.

Thirty years of love with the HKSR

  • Mr Lee Man-ban learned that he suffered from ankylosing spondylitis while still young.  The bent spine could not hinder his ambition to become an accountant, nor his passion to promote the affairs of the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation.

These five persons with disability or chronic illness are leading exciting lives, even under the fierce torture of unexpected acute health problems.  The meeting point of these five pre-eminent people is the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation.  These ambassadors of the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation promise to fulfill their responsibilities and can testify that, "HKSR will help you to create your own possibilities."
