My "Mischievous Boy" - Grace Lin

"All of a sudden my limbs felt hot. They were red and swollen, then arthritis pain began torturing me." Ms. Grace Lin recalls the situation in 1998 when she started to suffer.  At first she believed that she would fully recover after taking some pain-killers and rest, however her doctor diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis(RA).

A terrible situation without a remedy

For the first six months, Ms. Lin consulted private doctors for their prescriptions before it was her turn to see the specialists in a government out-patient clinic. However, her situation did not get any better, and she could hardly move any part of her body except for her eyeballs during attacks of the illness. She could neither work nor take care of herself.

The cure comes with HKSR

Ms. Lin later regained partial control of the joints which were stiff originally. She started to accommodate her lifestyle to a weaker body.

To her joy, she came to know several friends who also suffered from R.A., and they have been caring for each other for years. "  I always joked that R.A. was a 'mischievous boy', because it always bothers me.  Now, after seven years, it has become the 'naughty boy'.  After some time it may be upgraded to 'naughty man', and perhaps 'naughty old man'."

Ms. Lin has become a very active and committed volunteer with HKSR. Her life has a very close relationship with HKSR and its work. "On my way to work in Sheung Wan, I rely on taking Rehabus, a safe and trustworthy means of accessible transportation for people with disability."

Ms. Lin has promised to commit herself fully as a volunteer, and her priority is HKSR.  She concludes, "Disability may never end, but rehabilitation has definitely revived me."
